Bamboo is a grass that functions as a single plant, self-propagating as it spreads horizontally underground. It continually sends up new shoots, naturally replenishing itself and making it one of the most renewable resources known. Bamboo is not harmed by harvesting and can grow into mature fibre in three to seven years. It is more durable and 16% harder than maple, and a third lighter in weight than oak. Bamboo holds the promise of a sustainable, cost-effective, and ecologically responsible alternative to wood.

Island Bamboo 12 by 18 Inch Cutting Board

mfr: Norstar Marketing, LLC Why bamboo Bamboo is actually a grass that grows to a harvestable height between 3-5 years. Some species grow up to 2 feet per day. After harvesting, bamboo does not require replanting. Bamboo has an extensive root system that continually sends up new shoots, naturally replenishing itself, in turn making it one of the most renewable resources known. Functional…ecologically friendly…unique Easy maintenance…shows little wear. Our unique bamboo cutting boards are hand crafted using hundreds of tiny laminated bamboo strips. Unlike most other hardwoods, bamboo absorbs very little moisture and consequently does not shrink or swell as much, making it a superior choice of material for cutting boards. It is 16% harder than maple which means less visible knife marks keeping the cutting board looking brand new for years to come. Many people like to use one side for cutting and the other side as a serving tray. We recommend washing with a mild detergent in warm water and periodically wiping with mineral oil to bring out the beautiful grain of the bamboo. We don’t recommend using a dishwasher. “Our cutting boards and chopping blocks are tied with raffia and a hang tag, perfect as a gift. The hang tag describes the benefits of bamboo and its care”.
